Daniel Blackman appeared on this show last fall while running in the election for the Public Service Commission of the State of Georgia. He runs a consulting and speaking business called Social Karma.
Daniel has over 10 years of public and intergovernmental affairs experience with a wide range of social and political issues and with agencies and organizations such as the Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Green Building Council, the Georgia Conservancy, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Energy, and the City of Atlanta’s Office of Sustainability. Daniel has also served on the Georgia Supreme Court Commission on Children, Marriage and Family Law and was appointed by the National Wildlife Federation to serve on an Environmental Policy Commission co-sponsored by members of the United States Congress.
Daniel was named a 2010 Outstanding Atlanta recipient, is a member of the 2011 Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership and the 2012 LEAD Atlanta class. He was raised in a military family, is a graduate of Clark Atlanta, and is married with three children.
We had a delightful extended conversation in which we dug deeper into old issues and explored new ones. Highlights of the conversation included:
- The importance of changing the conversation – and in particular de-politicizing conversations;
- How reconnecting with people and having conversations with our neighbors can make a difference;
- Recognizing how easy it is, as we get caught up in the rush of current events, to forget that we are living in real time.
You can contact Daniel by email at email@example.com and you can find out more about his businesses at socialkarma.agency.
