Joe recently became the first Director of Second Helpings Atlanta, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose vision is to eliminate hunger in the 5 county Metropolitan Atlanta area by rescuing surplus food and delivering it to those in need. With a team of 350+ volunteer drivers, SHA serves as the link between their network of over 50 donors and the front-line agencies who feed the hungry on a daily basis.
Previously Joe spent 30 years at IBM where he held numerous, global technical and executive leadership positions in IBM’s server, software, services, and corporate marketing organizations. He was deeply involved in the creation and introduction of IBM’s e-business on demand corporate marketing initiative and was part of a small, global team responsible for driving one of IBM’s Smarter Planet marketing initiatives.
After retiring from IBM in 2010, Joe joined Enterprise Information Management as their Chief Marketing Officer, and in 2013 joined PGi as their Vice President of Product Marketing.
Joe is an avid hiker and lover of horses and volunteers on a weekly basis at Save the Horses, a non-profit organization that was established in 1998 to rescue abused, abandoned, and neglected horses and other animals.
We talked to Joe about his life and career and spent a lot of time on the change of direction from a large corporate role to accepting a position as the Director of a small not-for-profit. Joe left us with the many valuable lessons including the following:
- Being able to see those things that make us happy, and allowing ourselves to draw closer to them;
- The importance of making meaningful activities a part of our everyday lives;
- The idea of becoming a “covert agent for change” in your place of work.
You can contact Joe by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 678 894-9761 and you can find out more about his business at www.secondhelpingsatlanta.org.
